Young children usually enjoy being active, whether that involves running, jumping, or climbing. If your child doesn’t seem to want to engage in physical activities or is unusually clumsy, it may be a reason to visit a podiatrist in New Orleans, LA.

If Your Child Complains of Heel Pain

Pain is always a serious indicator that something is wrong. Heel pain is very common and often caused by inflammation at the bottom of the foot, a condition called plantar fasciitis. Pain is often worse in the mornings when the child takes the day’s first steps. There may also be redness, swelling, or a sensation of heat near the affected area.

If Your Child Is Unusually Clumsy

Poor vision or coordination can cause clumsiness. But often, a child is clumsy because there’s something not quite right about how they use their feet. If your child seems to trip and fall more often than you would expect for their age and ability, it’s a good idea to rule out any problems with their feet.

If You Notice an Unusual Gait

If something is wrong with one of your child’s feet, they may put their weight on the other foot to reduce the pressure. Walking might be painful if their foot has a skin growth or other condition. An uneven gait can lead to other physical problems, so it’s important to address this as soon as possible.

If Your Child Has Ingrown Toenails

An ingrown toenail may seem like a minor inconvenience, but it can cause severe pain. There may also be swelling and redness around the area. Often, ingrown toenails are caused by ill-fitting shoes or improper nail cutting. Sometimes, a professional must remove an ingrown toenail to prevent an infection.

If Your Child Stops Being Active

If your child suddenly stops enjoying what used to be their favorite activities, that’s always a sign of concern. If they’re no longer running around with their friends on the playground, it might be a good idea to probe further. If your child isn’t physically capable of keeping up, flat feet may be the cause. Flat feet can cause your child to feel aches in their legs and feet, making them tire of activity sooner than they should. Suppose you or your child’s pediatrician notice anything unusual about your child’s feet, gait, or ability to exercise. In that case, it’s probably time to look for a podiatrist for children’s feet near me.
