What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a brand of clear aligners that are made of transparent plastic and work like traditional metal braces to slowly straighten your teeth. Unlike metal braces, Invisalign aligners are removable, and a set number of aligners will be custom-made for you to change into every few weeks as your teeth move into a new alignment.

What does Invisalign help treat?

Invisalign is designed to aesthetically improve the appearance of your smile by aligning your teeth and making them cohesive. Invisalign aligners can be used to treat a variety of dental issues, such as:

  • Gapped teeth
  • Underbites and overbites
  • Crowded teeth
  • Crossbites

How does Invisalign work?

During your initial appointment, your dentist will take 3D images of your teeth to visualise the expected movement of your teeth and come up with a series of custom-made aligners to use as the alignment of your teeth progresses. Every two to three weeks, the aligners are changed to fit the new alignment of your teeth, and over time, your teeth straighten as they would do with metal braces.

For the treatment to work as efficiently as possible, you must wear your aligners for a minimum of 22 hours a day and only take them off when brushing your teeth or eating and drinking. The length of the treatment varies from person to person, with the average length of the treatment being twelve months; however, it is common for you to notice changes in the alignment of your teeth after the first three to six months. It is also important to keep up with the recommended aftercare to ensure that your teeth do not move out of place again after the treatment is complete.

What are the advantages of treatment with Invisalign?

There are many benefits to having Invisalign aligners, which is why they have become so popular over the past few years and why more people are leaning towards them.

The main and most obvious benefit of using Invisalign is that the aligners are clear, making it a suitable option for adults and professionals who don’t want their orthodontic treatment to look so obvious. What’s even better is that the aligners are removable, allowing you to enjoy eating and drinking without worrying about food getting stuck between the braces. By removing your Invisalign aligners, you can maintain good oral hygiene since your teeth will be bare and easy to clean with no obstructions. Furthermore, aligning your teeth can make them look more aesthetically pleasing and boost your confidence.

Is there any aftercare when the treatment is over?

Once your teeth are aligned, you will want to keep them that way; the best way to ensure they remain aligned is to follow any aftercare recommended by your dentist and wear a retainer to ensure your teeth do not move out of alignment.
