Alcohol Tolerance

When you build up a tolerance to a substance, including alcohol, you will need more over time to get the same effect. Signs of addiction include not being able to limit the amount of alcohol you consume. Even knowing you will have a hangover in the morning won’t deter an alcoholic from drinking to excess. With an alcoholic, less is not more; more is more.

Poor Hygiene

Personal hygiene sometimes goes out the window with addiction. Unwashed hair, dirty clothes, and generally poor hygiene are visible signs of possible addiction that should not be ignored. With alcohol addiction, the need for alcohol supersedes all else, including self-care. With treatment for alcohol addiction, there is hope.

Legal Problems

Some serious legal ramifications come along with alcohol addiction. Driving while intoxicated exposes them to not only significant personal injury but also being arrested for driving under the influence, in turn creating massive financial burdens. With the growing lack of responsible behavior, often, child custody issues arise for the parents of minor children who find themselves addicted to alcohol.

Social Withdrawal

Going from someone who previously enjoyed family and friends to someone who would rather be alone is troubling. Suddenly, being absent from work or school continuously or missing out on essential celebrations and events such as birthdays can be a red flag for addiction.

When drinking alcohol becomes more important than family and social obligations, there could be an addiction problem.

Alcohol Dependence

Alcohol dependence can be psychological, physical, or a combination of the two. When someone is addicted to alcohol, they cannot go long periods without drinking. Going without alcohol for as little as a few hours can lead to an intense craving for the person with an addiction. Common physical symptoms manifest, such as shaking or trembling hands and the inability to concentrate. With extreme cases of addiction, the physical complications are more severe and could require medical support for the safety of the person with addiction.

Find Help Nearby

There is help available for those finding themselves with a severe alcohol addiction. If you or someone you know needs help with alcohol addiction, look for compassionate care resources without judgment. Open lines of communication and emotional support are paramount for treatment and optimal recovery. Find treatment for alcohol addiction near you online by typing “alcohol addiction treatment near me.”
